DOWNIEVILLE — November 2, 2026. Sierra County partners with the Plumas County library system and volunteers to provide access to books and other library services. The Downieville branch is at 318 Commercial Street.
When the branch is open
The county’s published schedule lists Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday from noon to 4 p.m., and the second Monday of each month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Call 530-289-3544 before a visit to confirm a volunteer-staffed schedule.
What visitors can ask for
The county describes print and digital library collections available through the partnership. For questions about memberships, digital access, special requests and community programs, speak with the local branch, particularly if you are coming from another mountain community.
How the network is supported
Sierra County says volunteers help staff the libraries and contributions to Friends of the Library can support extra programs. Potential volunteers can contact a branch for current needs and training requirements rather than showing up expecting an immediate assignment.
